The Great Emu War was a conflict fought in 1932 between the Australian government, seeking to protect its territory, and an invasive tribe of aggressive emus. The conflict ended in a decisive victory for the emus. The emus, despite almost no preparations, managed to fight and win a war of attrition against a pre-emptive strike force of Australian soldiers. The short campaign consumed more resources than the Australian military had allocated for this war, thus forcing them to sue for peace or risk annihilation.
